James C. Fang, MD, and Gregory S. Couper, MD, have assembled a panel of prominent surgeons and cardiologists to review the latest clinical, scientific, and investigational surgical and mechanical approaches to heart failure in hopes of improving the lives of this challenging group of patients. Topics range from such traditional strategies as high-risk surgical revascularization in advanced coronary artery disease, to more novel approaches such as ventricular reconstruction and mechanical assist devices. Many chapters are contributed by the original pioneers of specific surgical techniques, which provide s invaluable perspective from personal experience.
Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator Stored ECGs instructs the reader on the appropriate and optimal reading of device diagnostics in clinical practice using a format developed around low text volume, charts, and practical (hands-on) protocols that can be used directly during ICD follow-up. This concise didactic reference book provides clinical information via the use of images to illustrate specific diagnostic features in defibrillator therapy. The first part consists of chapters on defibrillator diagnostics, followed by case-based presentations with images, actual patient histories and a summary paragraph. All common and some rarer situations are covered.
Cryopreserved allograft tissues are now standard materials for the reconstructive cardiac surgeon. Since publication of the first edition ("Cardiac Reconstructions with Allograft Valves") in 1989, the field has progressed dramatically with increased clinical use of cardiovascular allograft tissues, with the development of new surgical techniques, and with advances in the understanding of the fundamentals of valve transplantation biology and cryopreservation. As a result, over two-thirds of the present volume represents new material. Fifty-six authors bring their expertise to thirteen comprehensive, lavishly illustrated sections which discuss the principles of the use of homograft valves, major clinical series of homograft valves for both left and right ventricular outflow tracts, cryopreserved allograft tissue for cardiac reconstruction, cell biology of heart valve leaflets, cryobiology of heart valve preservation, morphological, biochemical, and explant pathology studies of allograft heart valves, allograft valve banking, as well as detailed explanation of surgical techniques for valve and root methods for left and right ventricular outflow tract reconstructions, the Ross operation and variants, and complex reconstructions. A final section presents potential future directions for the field. Over 400 illustrations, created expressly for this book, depict the surgical techniques from the perspective of the surgeon standing at the operating table. All surgeons performing pediatric and/or adult valve replacements and reconstructive cardiac surgeries will benefit from the described methods. Cardiothoracic residents and cardiologists will also find the text useful. It will provide the surgeon with an enhanced understanding of the biological and material properties of allografts and increased familiarity with the range of surgical techniques applicable for the use of these valves, particularly in the successful management of challenging cardiac reconstructions.
The suture technique for vascular anastomosis construction is becoming inadequate to meet new surgeonв_Ts demands and surgeons need an alternative way to construct a bypass in order to reduce the technical demand and standardise the quality of the surgical procedure. This book is dedicated to surgeons, students, biomedical engineers and researchers with a special interest in vascular anastomosis and bypass techniques that want to update their knowledge concerning the major determinants of anastomosis outcome and all the existing alternatives to the suture technique. The author discloses the secrets and pitfalls of new sutureless anastomotic devices.
European Manual of Medicine Athens Univ., Greece. Focuses on vascular diseases as managed by vascular surgeons who primarily collaborate with other specialists attending to vascular disease. Topics include history of vascular surgery in Europe, and more. For practitioners and researchers. Softcover. British-oriented. Expanded-outline format.
Medical Intelligence Unit Univ. of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Presents the most current data on off pump coronary artery bypass surgery. Topics covered include cardiopulmonary bypass and inflammation, stabilization and hemodynamics, indications and surgical strategies, and sutureless coronary artery bypass grafting.
Endovascular procedures have a tremendous impact upon modern patient care. This book summarizes covered stent-graft applications in the experimental and clinical settings. Excellent illustrations document the acute and chronic behavior of stent-grafts within the vascular system including diagnostic imaging, histologic work-up and schematic drawings. A large amount of experience on intravascular ultrasound-based repair of aortic pathologies is presented. Physicians interested in the endovascular field will find this book a very stimulating resource.
Third author, Jerry Goldstone, is with the Univ. Hospital of Cleveland, OH. Provides a concise guide to managing patients with all kinds of emergent vascular problems. Topics include vascular injuries to the neck, acute intestinal ischemia, aortic dissection, vascular injuries in the leg, and more. For vascular surgeons.
